At 3:45pm on Sunday, Falmouth Coastguard paged the Torbay RNLI to assist the local Coastguard Rescue Team attempting to reach a young person who had fallen onto rocks at Berryhead
Volunteers were paged and launched the In-shore Lifeboat (ILB) within 10 minutes. At that time no further information about the casualty was yet available.
Acting Coxswain prepared and forewarned further volunteers to be ready to crew the All-weather Lifeboat (ALB), in case she was needed. And at 4:10pm, as anticipated, Falmouth Coastguard paged again requesting the additional ALB support. It was immediately launched enabling them to reach the incident within minutes.
By 4:37pm the casualty had been securely transferred aboard the ALB and was receiving medical attention with oxygen, from the crew for head and back injuries well as possible broken leg. The ALB with casualty aboard, made its way to Torquay harbour arriving at 5:20pm, to hand over to an awaiting ambulance crew.
The ILB had returned to station by 5:10pm and the ALB arrived back at 5:38pm. Both boats were made ready for service by 5:45pm
