Police help move abandoned vehicles off Brixham’s roads

Along with support from Torbay Council, Devon & Cornwall Police recently helped to remove abandoned vehicles from the streets of Brixham after receiving reports from local residents about their obstructive placement.

The Paignton and Brixham neighbourhood police team have seen a number of unused vehicles being abandoned on roads and streets. These vehicles have been causing a nuisance to local residents and road users.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Karl Copik who helped with the move, said: “I’m pleased that we have been able to successfully remove these vehicles from the road and now they will no longer cause an issue for our community. I know how much of an inconvenience this was causing local people, so it’s great that we were able to act to resolve this problem. Many thanks to Torbay Council who we regularly work in partnership with on these issues.”

“Our team is aware there are still a number of abandoned vehicles remaining in the local area, and we’d like to reassure the public that we are working alongside the council to address this.”

If you know the vehicle owner of a suspected abandoned vehicle, our first advice would be to ask them politely to move it. After all, they may not be aware they’re causing a problem.

However, do not take the law into your own hands by intervening, such as making physical threats or attempting to move the vehicle yourself. You may make the situation worse and even risk committing an offence yourself. You can report an abandoned vehicle on the Torbay Council website here.

Further guidance is available on our website about parking issues and abandoned vehicles.

“We are listening to the voices in our communities to understand the issues and concerns affecting them. I would really like to encourage people to continue to come forward and report crime and intelligence to us. Your reports play a vital part in our investigations.”

You can submit a crime report on the Devon & Cornwall Police website here or by calling 101. You can also report information anonymously to Crimestoppers UK on 0800 555111. Your information could help save a life. If a crime is taking place, call 999
