Feedback on community policing and crime reports are essential to Devon & Cornwall Police’s response to tackling crime. As part of the police’s focus to connect with people in Torquay, the mobile police station offers another opportunity for the public to speak with a police officer.
Dates for upcoming deployments of the mobile police station:
- Friday 4 April, 3-5pm: Union Street, outside Primark
- Wednesday 16 April, 10-1pm: the Strand area
- Tuesday 22 April, 11-2pm: Union Street, outside Primark
- Tuesday 29 April, 11-1pm: Castle Circus
- Tuesday 6 May, 10-1pm: the Strand area
“I know that the public want to see more police officers on their streets. Not only that, but we understand how important it is to be able to have a conversation about concerns with someone who will listen, and more importantly act on them,” said Police Inspector Rob Harvey.
“That’s why we’re continuing our regular mobile police station deployments in the heart of the town, which have been up and running since November.
“As a result of the things you’ve been telling us, we’ve increased uniformed patrols in and around the Castle Circus area and obtained additional resources for an intensified period to target individuals who cause the most harm in our community. We’ve also made arrests and charged those involved in drug dealing in the town centre.
“Needless to say, I recognise that there may be some frustrations within our communities. Especially for people who may feel like they’ve told police this before, or that should already know where the issues are.
“But I hope this demonstrates that we are listening and we are acting on what people are reporting to us. I’d like to encourage anyone in Torquay, resident or visitor, to come and speak to us. Unless you report something, please don’t assume that we know about it already. As we can’t be everywhere at all times – we reply upon communities to be the eyes and ears on the streets when we can’t be there.
“Community information is vital in planning how we carry out our patrols and activities. It provides us with strong evidence so that we know we’re targeting the right areas at the right times to pursue criminals and have the biggest impact on safety.
“Whether it’s to report crime, to tell us where and why you don’t feel safe or to ask for some crime prevention advice, we’re here to listen.”
Please note, dates are subject to change and/or be postponed depending on policing need.
The mobile police station will be manned by police officers and/or police community support officers (PCSOs).
The helpful mobile station will allow passers-by to easily report crime, give statements and receive crime prevention advice without the need to pick up the phone or visit the police enquiry office.
The mobile police station forms part of the Street Focus: Torquay project, a partnership project to make Torquay a safe place for residents and visitors. More information about the project can be found here: Street Focus
