Teignbridge residents and businesses are being asked to help shape the council's budget for next year by taking part in the annual budget survey.
With rising costs, reduced government funding, and tight finances, the council is asking for input on which services should be prioritised in the budget.
They are also seeking feedback on how to address any budget shortfalls—whether through making savings, reducing non-essential services, generating additional income, or raising council tax.
Each year, the council works hard to provide a wide range of services for residents and businesses, some of which are a legal requirement such as bin collections and others, including leisure centres, community transport, and public toilets, are discretionary.
With funding decreasing and the budget needing to go further, like most other councils up and down the country, tough decisions might need to be made about how to allocate resources to ensure we can still deliver our statutory services.
The results will play a crucial role in the annual budget-setting process and will be presented to councillors before they make any budget decisions for the next financial year.
Councillor Richard Keeling, Leader of Teignbridge District Council and Executive Member for Corporate Strategy, Devolution, Strategic Partnerships and Governance said:
“We’re delivering council services against a backdrop of local government budget cuts and increased costs, so the more people who complete the survey and share their views, the better we’ll be able to devise a budget that fulfils our legal obligations while prioritising the services that matter most to our communities.”
The short survey can be completed on our website until noon on Monday 3 February 2025.
