Free mentoring programme helps Torbay residents get into work

A new programme in Torbay called Focus Forward is helping unemployed residents to get back into work.

The programme offers one-to-one mentoring that helps people to gain the skills and confidence to gain new employment.

Mentoring sessions are face-to-face and provide personalised support across a wide range of areas. This includes health and wellbeing, finance and housing, skills and education, and employment.

Examples of support include help with gaining work experience, writing a CV, job searching and interview techniques. For those struggling with their finances, there is also support with housing, budgeting, bills and bank accounts.

The Focus Forward project has received funding from the UK Government as well as funding from Torbay Council. It is completely free for participating Torbay residents.

Commissioned by Torbay Council, the programme is being delivered by local partner organisations Eat that Frog and I Can Do That CIC.

To be eligible for this free support you must be aged 25 – 64, live in Torbay and not currently in work or training.

There are several ways that you can sign up to the programme. You can ask your Job Centre Plus Work Coach, email info@eatthatfrog.ac.uk, call 01803 551551 or complete an online form at www.eatthatfrog.ac.uk/focus-forward

Councillor Chris Lewis, Cabinet Member for Place Services and Economic Growth for Torbay Council, said: “We are committed to helping our residents secure good employment and learning opportunities that enhance their potential. By taking part in the Focus Forward programme, people can receive bespoke support to overcome the challenges they are facing. They can learn new digital skills, take part in adult training courses and receive the help they need to enter the world of work. We have made these courses completely free so that everyone, no matter what their background, can benefit. If you, or someone you know, is struggling to find work then I strongly encourage you to sign up.’’
