Since reopening in April 2024, Dawlish Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) has seen over 1,300 for help with their minor injuries and ailments.
The MIU at Dawlish Community Hospital, operated by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, reopened on Tuesday 02 April 2024. The unit currently operates Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.
An ‘appointment-priority’ service is in place which has received positive feedback from locals, with people able to call and book appointments for the same day.
The average age of visitors to the unit was 59 since reopening, with 88% being adults and the rest children. All visitors were seen within four hours and 97.3% within 2 hours.
The monthly breakdown for visits are:
- April – 258
- May – 239
- June – 247
- July – 295
- August – 302
Staffing MIUs with the necessary practitioners remains challenging, and there are unfortunately no current plans to extend the level of service.
Torbay and South Devon NHS keep this under constant review and will prioritise services effectively and respond to demand where funding and staffing allows.
The MIU was originally closed as part of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic due to staffing levels and demand for services.
