£958,000 of funding awarded to support the roll out of electric vehicle charge points across Torbay

Torbay Council are pleased to announce that we have been awarded £958,000 of funding to support the roll out of electric vehicle (EV) charge points. The roll out will be a joint initiative working with Devon County Council.

Torbay Council are pleased to announce that we have been awarded £958,000 of funding to support the roll out of electric vehicle (EV) charge points. The roll out will be a joint initiative working with Devon County Council.

The award has come from the government's Local Electric Vehicle (LEVI) fund. As part of the funding announcement, it was stated that 'payments to 44 additional councils from Torbay to Tees Valley, worth over £185 million, have now been approved'.

The fund is intended to support the delivery of thousands of charge points across England. We will use the award to provide hundreds of charge points in car parks and on street locations over the next three years.

The scheme will help to provide motorists in Torbay with a real choice about the types of vehicles they use. It will allow people to make the switch to EVs with more confidence in local charge points being widely available. This will positively contribute to both national and local targets for net zero.

Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place, Culture & Events and Parking for Torbay Council, said; “We're delighted to announce the Government funding award allowing us to deliver enhanced EV infrastructure across Torbay.

"The provision of hundreds of charge points is a real step forward to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. The transition to zero-emission vehicles will see reduced pollution both nationally and at the local level. With the right infrastructure in place, Torbay Council can help to improve local air quality and protect our sensitive landscapes."
