How to Help Prevent Fly Tipping in Your Area

Fly tipping is not only unpleasant but also illegal and costly for councils to clean up. However, there are steps we can all take to prevent it.

If you need to dispose of household waste, check what’s accepted at your local recycling centre. The Brunel Road Recycling Centre offers a list of items that can be disposed of for free, as well as those that require a fee.

When hiring a 'man and van' or waste disposal service, ensure they are a registered waste carrier, not a rogue trader. Follow these steps:

  • Request to see a waste carriers licence, and verify it on the Environment Agency website or by calling 03708 506 506.
  • Record the vehicle’s registration number.
  • Ask where your rubbish is going, and get a receipt or waste transfer note.

If you spot any fly-tipping, report it using the online form and the What3Words app to provide the exact location.

By taking these actions, you can help reduce fly tipping and keep our communities clean.
