In local rugby on Saturday Exmouth Cockles were well beaten at Weston super mare by 53 points to 10 in a game where they were always playing catch-up and although Cockles kept plugging away the home side were never in any real trouble but league leaders Exeter University had the better of visitors and second placed Hornets in a high scoring game running out winners by 62-48 and now look odds on for promotion .In the south west one division Crediton were awarded  home win when bottom club Old Patasians were unable to raise a side but Sidmouth narrowly lost to league leaders Chew Valley by 32-22 in Bristol and in the western counties league Teignmouth lost  by 35 points to 22 at Burnham on sea , Honiton's woes continue with a 71-17 thrashing from inform Newton Abbot at Allhallows but Tiverton narrowly had the better of Bideford winning 13-10 in north devon . Finally in the Devon and Cornwall division Withycombe were held to a 12 all draw by North Tawton at Raleigh park and although Topsham had a easy 49 points to 7 at  Bude they still remain one point behind leaders Pirates Amateurs . Cullompton kept up the pressure on the two leaders with a 28-22 victory over Tavistock at Stafford park.
