After a rest weekend last week, local rugby returned. Here's a roundup of how our local teams got on.
In local rugby on Saturday in the Regional one south west division Exmouth Cockels were narrowly beaten at the Imperial ground by league leaders Devonport Services, trailing by 15-3 at the break they staged a spirited comeback in the second half but were eventually beaten 20-17 although they did gain a deserved losing bonus point .
In Regional two, top of the table Sidmouth continue their push for promotion with a 29-0 victory over visitors Chard at the Blackmore field while Crediton kept up the pressure on them with a 34-24 win at Somerset side North Petherton . Teignmouth had a surprisingly close game against bottom club Burnham on Sea at Bitton park but eventually won by 31 points to 29 and Topsham also ran it close with a 36-33 victory over visiting Wadebridge Camels at the Bonfire field with Cullompton gaining a less than comfortable win over Newton Abbot at Rackerhayes by 32-25 .
In Counties one western west Tiverton maintained their push for top spot with a convincing 25 -7 away victory over Wiveliscombe while in Counties two Devon in the local derby game Exmouth Quins gained bragging rights with a 27 points to 5 win over Withycombe at Raleigh park , Honiton had the closest of victories with a 20-19 win at Plymouth Arguam but Exeter Saracens were trounced 55-10 at Pottington road by Barnstaple Athletic.
Finally in the Counties 3 Devon north and east division Exeter Athletic beat visiting Teignmouth second fifteen 27-10 at Oil Mill lane with New Cross given a home walkover against Sidmouth Quins.
