The new football season got under way this weekend and here is a look at how our local teams faired.
In Saturday's local football a poor second half performance by Exmouth Town cost them a place in the F A Cup as they were beaten 2-1 by Western league side Falmouth at Bickland Park. Ethan Slater gave Town the perfect start with a goal after just 3 minutes and although dominating most of the first half they fell away badly after the break and seemed to be sitting on their one goal lead only to be undone by two goals in the last 15 minutes given the home side a deserved victory.
In the other cup game Peninsula league side Okehampton Argyle drew 2 all with newly promoted Western premier division side Brixham Utd at Simmons Park while in the first round of Peninsula league east matches only Crediton Utd could manage a local victory beating newly promoted Stoke Gabriel/Torbay police combined by 2 goals to 0 at Lords Meadow.
Axminster Town did gain a point with a 1 all draw with visitors Bovey Tracey at Tigers Way but Sidmouth Town were beaten 3-1 at Ivybridge Erme Park, Honiton Town lost at Elburton villa by the same score while Teignmouth fc went down 4-2 at Coombe Valley to visitors Torrington afc, the rest of the Devon leagues don't start their season until next week
