ANOTHER GOAL LESS DISPLAY FOR CITY

Yet another disappointing afternoon for Exeter City with a third goal less draw on the trot with play off rivals Newport County at St James Park. Exeter have not scored a goal since the 13th April which doesn't seem very long ago but it's 270 minutes of football. Their last win was on the 10th April when the Grecians beat Cambridge 4-1. Since then there was a defeat against Barrow and three goal less draws with Southend, Barrow and now Newport. The play offs are almost out of reach for the Grecians.
The Exiles came closest to finding a breakthrough as Lewis Collins' header was saved by City keeper Jokull Andresson.
Andresson also saved well from Josh Sheehan, while at the other end Jake Taylor shot wide and Ryan Bowman headed but to no avail.
A pretty uneventful game with no shots on target for Exeter which is absolutely awful for a team looking to progress to the play offs. Serious questions will have to be asked after Matt Taylor's team slide down the table.
An Exeter win over Newport would have seen them climb into the top seven at the expense of the Welsh club, but they remain three points adrift in ninth. Newport have pulled away on 66 points with Forest Green on 67. Salford have now over taken Exeter to go eighth with 65 points with the Grecians now in ninth on 63 points. After The Grecians we find Carlisle and Leyton Orient who are both on 61 points and Port Vale and Crawley are on 60 points. Crawley are in 13th and only three points away.
Have Exeter City waived goodbye to the playoffs, with a only a handful of games left have they left it too late or can it be a last chance saloon with a miracle. The fat lady has arrived but she is not singing just yet.
Exeter's next game is at home to Grimsby on Tuesday at 7pm.
Joining League 2 next season are Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers who have been relegated from League 1.
It wasn't a great afternoon for Plymouth Argyle either as they went down 3-1 to Oxford United. Oxford are in the playoffs in 5th position and Argyle are now in 18th. Nine points of the drop zone.
Plymouth Argyle's next game is at home next Saturday against Sunderland with a 3.00pm kick off.
Torquay United made up the trio of Devon football with a 2-2 all draw with Notts County at Plainmoor. One point was all was what on offer with a 98 minute equaliser. One point is all that's needed. They are now top of the National League sharing the spills on 67 points with Hartlepool who didn't play and Sutton in third on 66 points.
Fabulous work from the Gulls.
Their next game is on Tuesday at home to Aldershot with a 7.00pm kick off
