South West Water has shared an update on the repair work for the burst sewage pipe on Maer Road.
Richard Price, the company's Managing Director of Wastewater Services said. In his last update, He mentioned that the team was working to finalise a long-term fix for the sewer pipe that burst in Exmouth in August, ensuring the public can trust the company's operations.
"I am pleased to announce that we have now found a solution, and we will begin the first of two phases of work this month," Mr Price stated. The initial phase will involve replacing the damaged section of the sewer to restore its functionality and remove the temporary setup currently in place. The goal is to complete this work by the end of the year.
The second phase will focus on replacing the sewer line leading to the Maer Road pumping station.
South West Water is also collaborating with regulatory partners to expedite broader improvement plans for Exmouth, which include upgrading pumping stations and treatment facilities to reduce the frequency of spills.
As part of this effort, upgrades at the Maer Road pumping station and the Maer Lane Wastewater Treatment Works outfall are already underway, with completion expected by March 2025.
"We are committed to protecting the environment as part of our £38 million investment in Exmouth, and we will continue to keep the public informed on our progress and plans," Price added.
