Community tidy-ups in Beacon Heath and Whipton have resulted in dozens of bags of litter being collected for disposal.
The tidy-ups have been organised by Community Builder Ebbie Peters, with support from ward councillors and Exeter City Council. Community Builders support people in their local neighbourhoods as part of the Wellbeing Exeter & Cranbrook initiative.
On a recent litter-pick in Beacon Heath, local volunteers managed to fill 15 bin bags of rubbish picked up on the streets, verges, footpaths and public open spaces.
One of those helping out was Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for City Management. She said: “It’s lovely to see so many people of all ages showing such pride in their neighbourhoods. There’s a real community feel to these events with locals pulling together to improve their neighbourhoods.”
On the recent clear-up, volunteers also collected several plastic tree guards which are no longer being used, a number of fly-tipped items such as discarded bathroom tiles, a bicycle wheel and a fire extinguisher.

In nearby Whipton, Community Builder Natalie Smith has also organised tidy-ups with local councillors.
There is another tidy-up scheduled for the Pendragon area of Beacon Heath on Saturday 25 January between 10am and 11.30am. Those taking part are asked to meet at the basketball court in the Pendragon Play Area.
Litter picking equipment is provided by the City Council, as well as the University of Exeter in some parts of the city.
