The Exe Estuary, a vital wildlife refuge, supports winter migratory birds from Greenland, Iceland, and Siberia, feeding on its rich mudflats. Conservation efforts have raised £3,779 since 2022 to protect its biodiversity.
The Exe Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with Ramsar designation, making it a globally significant wildlife refuge. This recognition is owed to its prolific migratory bird life during winter which is attracted by the incredibly rich biodiversity which is found within the vast mudflats of the River Exe, providing a vital food source for the many species who shelter and have their babies here.
Family-run Stuart Line Cruises has been operating popular Guided Bird Watching Cruises on the River Exe for many years – a unique opportunity to view the many thousands of migratory birds from the likes of Greenland, Iceland, and Arctic Siberia, supported by expert guidance from leading, local Ornithologists. The unique cruises are available on select dates between the end of this month, through to March 2025, with many novices, outdoors enthusiasts and seasoned ‘twitchers’ travelling from across the country to join one of these highly regarded, immersive experiences.
Stuart Line Cruises are long-standing supporters of Devon Wildlife Trust, helping to raise vital funds needed for various local wildlife projects during their Guided Bird Watching Cruises. Attendees have donated generously and since 2022, have managed to raise an impressive £3779.13 which will be used to fund local projects.
