Two men with suspected stab wounds have been taken to hospital and one man is in custody, following a knife fight at a property in Durham Close, Exeter.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. on January 2nd after receiving reports of a stabbing. Responding officers found that two men had been involved in a violent altercation at the residence. Both men sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
A 62-year-old Exeter man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Police have reassured the public that there is no wider threat stemming from the incident. A police cordon remains in place at the scene as forensic teams work to gather evidence.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:
"Police were called to Durham Close, Exeter, at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, following reports of a stabbing. It was reported that two men were involved in an altercation at a property and both sustained suspected stab wounds. Officers attended the location and a scene guard was put in place. Both men were taken to hospital.
"A 62-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 GBH and remains with police at this time. Enquiries are ongoing. There is no wider threat to the public as a result of this incident."
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was in the area at the time is asked to call 101 quoting log 88 of January 2.
