Swimmer pulled from the River Exe estuary after getting in to difficulty

At approximately 17.10 on Wednesday the Exmouth RNLI All-Weather lifeboat R&J Welburn and its volunteer crew were tasked to assist a swimmer who had found themselves in difficulty in the River Exe.

The lifeboat volunteers had been on an extended training exercise and were luckily very close to the swimmer when requested to help. After quickly recovering the individual, they were able to rapidly hand them off to awaiting emergency medical services at Exmouth Marina.

This is the second Exmouth RNLI life saving intervention involving swimmers in The River Exe in the past month. The river has very strong and potentially dangerous currents and is also a very busy boating channel.

Attempting to swim across it at any time is dangerous and should always be avoided.
