Shedding light on popular Exeter river crossing

Brand new lighting has been installed on a busy footbridge across the River Exe in Exeter.

The lighting on the Cricklepit Bridge down by Exeter quayside, was installed by members of the City Council’s engineering team and funded by the Exeter Quay and Canal Trust. It will keep the crossing visible at night for pedestrians and cyclists now that the nights are drawing in.

The engineers also carried out maintenance on the bridge to preserve its life.

A spokesperson for the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust said they were delighted to be able to fund the new lighting scheme on such an iconic bridge across the River Exe: “It’s a really important route for pedestrians and cyclists, linking the two sides of the busy waterfront area and makes it much safer for crossing; particularly as the winter nights set in.

“The scheme is effective, sympathetic and energy efficient and has been receiving positive feedback from residents, businesses, and other visitors to the area.”

Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for City Management, said: “The new lighting looks fabulous and will help people crossing over as the early evenings become darker now that we are heading into autumn and towards winter.”
