A new charter has been launched in Exeter to ensure all developments across the city are designed and built to quality standards with sustainability and thriving communities in mind.
The Liveable Exeter Placemaking Charter has been unveiled by Exeter City Council. The visionary blueprint aims to elevate the quality and sustainability of new developments in Exeter.

The Liveable Exeter Placemaking Charter has been drawn up thanks to the collaborative working of the Exeter Design Quality Partnership, which sees the coming together of City Council officers, developers, and design specialists to push for exceptional design and sustainability standards.
The Charter aims to foster an inclusive, healthy, and sustainable urban environment, aligning closely with Exeter’s ambitious Vision 2040, ensuring developments contribute positively to the city's fabric.
The Charter emphasises the use of innovative planning tools to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.
The initiative reflects a significant step towards realising a model of urban development that respects both heritage and modernity. By embracing such forward-thinking policies, Exeter is setting a benchmark for cities worldwide.
