Help shape East Devon’s Anti-Poverty Strategy

The newly launched Anti-Poverty Strategy consultation will help ensure that East Devon District Council’s services meet the needs of our communities, addressing these financial challenges.

East Devon is a beautiful place to live and work, with its market towns, coastal areas, and rural landscapes. However, within our communities there are residents who don’t have enough money or resources to meet basic needs. Increasing foodbank use and the need for other emergency support, illustrates that some residents cannot afford food, energy, or a decent home to live in.

Your feedback in the newly launched Anti-Poverty Strategy consultation will help ensure that East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) services meet the needs of our communities, addressing these financial challenges. Take part in the consultation before the deadline of 5pm on Friday 25 October 2024.

Questions cover topics such as what poverty means to you, whether the impacts of poverty differ in towns to countryside locations, and what support you think would be most important to resolve these issues. If you have limited online access, you may request a paper version by emailing engagement@eastdevon.gov.uk or calling Customer Services on 01404515616 (during office hours).

Enhancing the quality of life for residents is a key priority for East Devon District Council and tackling poverty is vital to improve people’s health, wellbeing, and future opportunities. The council has a dedicated Financial Resilience Team, who work directly with individual residents, in collaboration with partner agencies, to provide support, advice, and to solve root causes of poverty. Between 1 April 2024 and 27 September 2024, EDDC’s team distributed nearly £285,000 of UK Government Household Support Funding to more than 1,400 East Devon low-income households.

Once the consultation closes, the responses will be analysed and used to inform the strategy, which will be subject to approval from councillors.
