Have your say on draft plans for Exmouth town and seafront

Have your say on a draft plan outlining how Exmouth town and seafront will be shaped for the next decade.

Following extensive public consultations in summer 2022, East Devon District Council (EDDC) has now released its draft ‘Placemaking Plan for Exmouth Town and Seafront’.

A questionnaire, asking for feedback will run for two weeks from March 1 until March 15, 2024.
The plan, which was presented at a Placemaking in Exmouth Town and Seafront Group meeting on January 23, 2024, conceptualises what developments could go where.

The draft plan, whilst quite aspirational, is designed to guide the council on developments and contains some short, medium and long-term proposals – all which will be subject to securing the necessary funding and statutory consents.

Each proposal will have to be assessed for viability and sustainability, along with being subject to other normal considerations, like site constraints and limitations, impact on the environment etc.

Councillor Nick Hookway, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder Culture, Leisure, Sport and Tourism, said:

"The Exmouth Placemaking Plan is a strategic document that looks to the future with a dynamic and positive vision. The aims and intentions of EDDC regarding economic development and placemaking within Exmouth town and the seafront are set out within the plan for the next 10 years.

“The plan has been designed following on from consultation with residents as well as stakeholders. The breadth of the plan is significant as this is the first time that the entire seafront and town centre has been considered in this way.

“The plan will form part of the new Local Plan now being prepared and will enable appropriate development.

“There is a focus on cultural events which will not only help to attract visitors but also improve the health and wellbeing of residents.

“Once adopted the plan will remove uncertainty and allow businesses to invest in Exmouth with confidence. The plan will also give the council the ability to seek and bid for grant funding as it becomes available."
