Families invited to join free countdown to Christmas trail in Exeter

Running now until December 27, the trail invites families to explore Exeter and uncover clues at nine locations, each revealing a letter that forms a special Christmas word.

As part of Exeter's vibrant Christmas celebrations, InExeter is delighted to offer families a fun, free, and festive adventure around the city with the launch of the Countdown to Christmas Trail. Running now until December 27, the trail invites families to explore Exeter and uncover clues at nine locations, each revealing a letter that forms a special Christmas word.

Once participants have unscrambled the word, they can collect a limited-edition Exeter Sticker Sheet at a finish station and enter an online competition to win one of five £100 Exeter Independent Gift Cards.

"There is so much magic to experience in Exeter this Christmas," says Nicola Wheeler, CEO of InExeter. "From the twinkling Christmas lights to the bustling markets, festive shopping, and the wonderful cafes and restaurants where you can celebrate with friends and family. To add to the festive fun, we’ve created a free activity that families can enjoy together as they explore the city and soak up the Christmas atmosphere."

The Countdown to Christmas Trail is now open, giving families the perfect reason to visit the city throughout the festive season. Best of all, you don’t have to complete the trail in one go! With multiple trips into Exeter, you can tick off a few locations each time, keeping the excitement alive with every visit.

How to get involved:

  • Locations: Families can visit clue locations in any order, collecting letters to complete the festive word.
  • Maps: Pick up your trail map at a Visit Exeter information point: Exeter Ticket Office, Exeter Library Foyer, John Lewis (4th Floor), or the RAMM Museum (Garden Entrance). For added convenience, a digital map is also available online at www.visitexeter.com/xmastrail.
  • Finish Stations: Complete the trail and collect your exclusive Exeter Sticker Sheet at Jelly Charity Shop, John Lewis, Exeter Library, or the RAMM Gift Shop.

"InExeter is proud to showcase Exeter as Devon’s ultimate Christmas destination," adds Nicola. "Through this trail, we hope to bring families together, highlight the best of the city, and add some extra Christmas magic for all to enjoy."
