Exmouth Town Council aims to cut weeds in outer areas. After trials and talks, the Town Maintenance group suggested improving efficiency with a multi-use sweeper. They recommend hiring a HAKO Citymaster 1650 with weed-removal attachments.
Exmouth Town Council is working hard to reduce weeds in the outlying parts of Exmouth.
The Town Maintenance Team have for a few years been out and about with a push along weed ripping machine removing weeds and manually sweeping and collecting the detritus and waste.
More recently this has become a slow and tedious process, with the team struggling to get around the town fast enough. Members of the Town Maintenance Overview working party discussed making road weed clearing more efficient by using equipment such as a multi-use road sweeper and after many demonstrations and negotiations recommended that the Town Council hire a HAKO Citymaster 1650 Road sweeper with weed removing attachment.
Why is the Town Council doing on this?
Weeds in Exmouth, particularly in the outlying areas are getting worse for several reasons, some being:
• Roads are not swept as often, and detritus forms a perfect bed in which weeds settle and grow.
• Grass is cut less often and, in some places, left to go wild meaning it goes to seed and spreads onto roads and pavements.
• Chemical weed sprays are no longer used.
Having carried out due diligence to verify the need and effectiveness of acquiring the machine it was agreed to acquire a Hako Citymaster 1650 with weed attachment on a contract hire basis.
The new machine is to be delivered on 1st May and after some initial training and trialling to familiarise its use, the plan is to ensure it is out in all seasons.
Exmouth will be divided into zones and the machine will work in each zone and hopefully repeat the process at least two or three times a year.
Councillor Ian Kirvan, Chair of the Town Maintenance Working Party said: “We’re delighted to be receiving this new piece of equipment which I am sure will make a positive difference to our town.
I, like many residents have been very disappointed by the withdrawal of services such as lengthsmen to clear roads and pavements, frequent drain and gully cleaning as well as general maintenance of roads and verges and am pleased that at a local level Exmouth town council is leading the way to take on these jobs to improve the overall appearance and cleanliness of the town.”
