On Thursday morning H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of the Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew following a 999 call from the relative of a sea swimmer who was facing serious medical difficulties near Orcombe Point.
The Exmouth Inshore lifeboat, George Bearman II, with three volunteer crew onboard, launched at 11.18 and were quickly able to arrive on scene.
The casualty was in the surf-line and unresponsive at the time of the crews arrival. They immediately commenced emergency first aid, supported within minutes by a member of the Exmouth volunteer Coastguard Rescue team, who is also a qualified Paramedic.
The combined volunteer team rapidly transported the casualty to Exmouth beach and were able to hand him over to a waiting South Western Ambulance Service crew to carry on with emergency medical support and his transport to hospital.
We wish the casualty a swift recovery
A very good outcome from the combined RNLI & Coastguard volunteers and ambulance crews and exactly the kind of incident our volunteers train for as we provide our 24/7 charity lifesaving service.
