Exmouth RNLI lifeboat launched in choppy conditions to reports of two individuals struggling in the River Exe.

At 09.20 today H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of the Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew and lifeboat to reports from a concerned member of the public about two individuals they believed were struggling on paddleboards in the River Exe.

The inshore lifeboat, George Bearman II, with three volunteer crew onboard launched at 09.28 and made best speed to the reported location, due north of the Exe Sailing Club

However, shortly after launching our volunteers were informed that the two individuals had safely made it to shore and did not require any assistance. Satisfied that no one was at risk, H.M Coastguard stood down the lifeboat and crew.

Due to the conditions at time of launch the lifeboat headed to Exmouth Marina to moor-up until conditions later will allow the safe recovery of the boat to the lifeboat station.

We believe this call-out was a false alarm with good intent, however we thank the individual who called 999 and reported their concerns as we would always rather launch than risk leaving someone in genuine need of help.
