At 13.00 today (Saturday) H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of the RNLI Exmouth lifeboat to assist a 37 foot yacht that had gone aground on Pole Sands.
The ILB D-805 George Bearman II launched minutes later with three volunteer crew onboard and made best speed to the stranded sailors.
Arriving on scene shortly after launching, the volunteers dropped one member of lifeboat crew onto the vessel to assist in deploying its anchor. Both individuals on the yacht were returned safely to Exmouth Marina and were unharmed by their ordeal.
The crew then returned to station and the lifeboat was ready again for service at 14.00.
