All bin collections were cancelled in Exeter today due to the snow and dangerous driving conditions.
Around 2,000 bins did get collected earlier in the morning but as the snow got heavier, crews were called back to the Exton Road depot because of the dangerous conditions.
Residents are being advised to take back their bins and they will be collected on the next scheduled collection date. Crews will remove any extra rubbish or recycling on these next collection dates. Additional rubbish should be put in a securely tied sack. Additional recycling should also be placed in a securely tied sack with a label on the sack with the first line of the address and the word ‘recycling’. Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for City Management, said: “It’s unfortunate that we have not been able to carry out all refuse and recycling collections today, but our number one priority is the safety of our crews and the people of Exeter.
“The heavy snow has made driving conditions on the narrow Exeter roads treacherous and we simply can’t risk putting people in danger. It’s also hazardous underfoot for our crews working out in the elements. When fully laden, refuse collection vehicles can be heavier than a packed bus, so operating them in snow or icy conditions is a definite no-no!”
