The banking hub in Sidmouth is now open and ready to welcome customers.

The newly established hub, located at the former Joules premises in Market Place, has commenced operations. This hub hosts a counter service managed by the Post Office, facilitating regular cash transactions for customers of all major banks and building societies.

Business clients have access to various counter services, including cash withdrawals, cash and cheque deposits, as well as other essential cash-related services such as floats and coinage.

Additionally, the hub introduces a Community Banker service, wherein representatives from each of the five main banks will be available on specific days of the week to engage with their respective customers. The designated days for these services are as follows:

Monday: NatWest

Tuesday: HSBC

Wednesday: Santander

Thursday: Lloyds

Friday: Barclays

Banking hubs are now being operated by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit organisation backed by 10 major banks and building societies. This initiative forms part of a collaborative strategy aimed at safeguarding access to cash. According to the company, digital or online solutions aren't universally accessible at all times, making banking hubs a vital resource for individuals, small businesses, and their local communities.

The upcoming official opening of Sidmouth's banking hub will be marked with a ceremony at 11 am next Friday, April 5th, officiated by East Devon MP Simon Jupp.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Jupp remarked, "I am thrilled about the opening of Sidmouth’s banking hub. During a recent tour, I met with representatives from various banks who will be providing essential banking services that our town has been lacking for years. Their eagerness to serve the public is evident, and as a Sidmouth resident, I eagerly anticipate becoming a regular customer. Congratulations to all involved in bringing our banking hub to fruition; it's truly been a collaborative effort."

Gareth Oakley, CEO of Cash Access UK, shared his excitement, stating, "I am delighted to announce the opening of the newest hub in Devon and eagerly anticipate the official ceremony next week. Access to cash and face-to-face banking services remains crucial for millions of people, and we are proud to support numerous communities by introducing these vital services to their high streets."
