Plea for help in ‘nightmare’ lane

Residents living along a pothole-strewn lane in Devon say their friends and family no longer visit them because the damage is so bad.

Drivers of small cars can’t get through floodwater, and others claim their vehicles have been badly damaged by the terrible road surface.
Now they have pleaded with Devon County Council to do something about it.
More than 40 residents of Kingsford Lane at Longdown near Exeter signed a petition which was presented to the county council’s cabinet.
“We have lived here for 30 years and the lane has only once been resurfaced in that time,” said Mrs Waddilove of Kingsford House, who handed in the petition.
“It has been in a shocking state with the very minimum of repairs made. It is now at the point of causing serious damage and injury.”
Mrs Waddilove said the county council’s response to requests for help had been ‘minimal’.
She went on: “We all feel that the council doesn’t care. The damage to our cars is constant.
“Family and friends no longer want to come up the lane to visit us.
“This impacts our daily lives. We need to allow extra time for our journeys to make sure we are not damaging our vehicles.
“We want the council to repair and resurface the whole lane before it becomes even more dangerous.”
