Further reports in series of Devon burglaries

Detectives are appealing for residents to check their doorbell and CCTV footage as part of their investigation into a spate of burglaries.

Officers previously issued an appeal earlier this month after four homes were targeted in Alphington and Newcourt in the early hours of the morning between 30 October and 7 November.

We have now received a total of 15 reports, which are believed to be linked.

Offenders, believed to be two men dressed in dark clothing, entered three of the properties through unlocked doors, stealing car keys and then the cars themselves. An attempt was made on a fourth home.

These latest crimes have taken place on the 1 December 2023 in Crediton, Exeter and Exminster, and prior to this Ottery St Mary and Branscombe on during the early hours of the 25 November 2023.

Detective Inspector Guy Biggar said: “Sadly we’ve seen a continuation in this series of crimes, and I would urge the public to be extra vigilant on securing both houses and vehicles.

“If you have seen any suspicious behaviour or have been a victim of an offence and not yet reported it, please get in touch with us.

“Equally, if you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage which may assist our enquiries, please report it to us to so we can investigate full.

“In the meantime, we would ask residents to ensure that their homes are secure by keeping their doors locked at night and when they leave their property.”
