Free Train travel for veterans and serving personnel for Remembrance Services

Military personnel and veterans will be able to travel for free by train to and from remembrance services on the weekends of November 2-3 and 9-10, this year.

This offer covers key events, including the Submariners’ Remembrance Service in London on November 3 and the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph on November 10, as well as all other remembrance services nationwide on November 10.

Serving personnel can travel in uniform or by showing a current MOD90 Ministry of Defence identity card. Veterans need to present a Veterans Railcard, Veterans Oyster card, MOD-issued Veterans ID, or other proof of service.

Jacqueline Starr, chief executive of the Rail Delivery Group, highlighted the railway's longstanding connection to remembrance commemorations, noting that many rail workers lost their lives in both World Wars. "As an industry, we are proud to help people mark this important national occasion by offering free travel to serving personnel and veterans across the country."

Transport Secretary Louise Haigh added, “It’s only fitting that the rail industry, which played a crucial role during wartime, honours Remembrance Day by supporting those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve. This initiative ensures veterans and military personnel can easily attend these important services."
