Devon man jailed for 30 years for rape and sexual offences against children

Andrew Street of Rowes, Willand was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court last week after being found guilty of 13 offences including rape of a girl under 14, attempted rape, indecent assault on a girl under 16 & assaulting a child under the age of 13.

A man has been jailed for 30 years for rape and other sexual offences committed against three children.

Andrew Street, 64, of Rowes Orchard, Willand, was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court last week after being found guilty after trial of 13 offences including rape of a girl under 14, attempted rape, indecent assault on a girl under 16 and assaulting a child under the age of 13.

The offences were committed in the Tiverton area across many years.

To enable his offending Street made various threats of what would happen if the victims ever told anybody about the abuse. He abused one of the victims after taking her to a barn to see some kittens.

Some of the offences only came to an end when Street was jailed for other sexual offences unrelated to this case.

The abuse had a profound effect on the brave victims, who were forced to give evidence at trial as a result of Street’s refusal to admit what he had done.

Detective Inspector Paula Trevett said: “We welcome the sentence passed by the court which means Andrew Street will spend many years behind bars.

“But this case isn’t about him. It is about the three victims whose immense courage means that a dangerous sexual predator is now serving a very lengthy sentence for the sickening abuse he carried out.

“Without them, Street would still be going about his daily life so I’d like to thank them for remaining engaged with proceedings and for the bravery they have shown throughout.

“This case shows that we will continue to thoroughly investigate reports of rape and sexual abuse regardless of when the offences took place.”
