Devon & Cornwall Police will be allocating extra resources to manage the large crowds expected at Torbay Airshow this weekend but those attending can make sure of a smooth and relaxed atmosphere by doing a few small things such as planning their journey and being prepared for crowds and queues.
The weekend extravaganza is expected to see big crowds with thousands of visitors to the bay over the two days of entertainment in the skies and on the ground. Busy crowds can also mean groups can become separated, families are asked to ensure that phones are charged and to agree a safe meeting point beforehand for if they get separated.
This year the weather is expected to be much sunnier and warmer than last year which brings larger crowds and the need to stay hydrated and protected from the sun.
There is currently a planned rail strike for Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June, meaning this won’t be an available travel option and visitors are cautioned to plan their journeys in and out of Torbay with this in mind.
Inspector Chris Lithgow has this message – “This weekend is set to be hugely busy in Paignton and Torbay and Police resources have been increased to reflect this. Police have worked closely with event planners for months leading up to this weekend to make sure people that attend are safe and have a great time.
“If you are coming to the event, we hope you have an amazing time, but please be prepared for long queues and vast amounts of people. Please plan your journey, leave plenty of time and be mindful of other road users and local residents. Lastly, this is a family event and Police advise those visiting with children to agree a meeting point between you, make sure you have mobile phones charged and switched on, and for the younger children visiting, consider a wrist band with their details on to allow officials to quickly return children to their parent or guardian”.
