Changes to Stagecoach bus timetable for Spring

Stagecoach Southwest has announced changes that will be made to timetables across the network.

This spring, Stagecoach is set to unveil an improved timetable aimed at enhancing reliability and punctuality for its customers. According to Stagecoach, the upcoming timetables will feature enhancements to ensure a more dependable service.

In addition to the overall improvements, certain routes will offer increased frequency of connections, and travellers can expect journeys to new destinations in select areas.

Peter Knight, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, expressed anticipation for the launch of these enhanced timetables. He highlighted the challenges posed by roadworks and congestion, which have increasingly hindered service reliability. Knight emphasized the collaboration with Devon County Council to address these challenges and enhance the travel experience for customers in the region.

East Devon

Service 4 (Exeter St Davids – Cranbrook via City Centre and Honiton Road Park and Ride)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

Following a review of passenger demand, the frequency of buses Monday to Friday between approximately 0930-1500 will be adjusted from every 12 minutes to every 15 minutes and during the evening to every 40 minutes, providing a more reliable and punctual service.

Service 4A (Exeter St Davids – Exeter Airport via City Centre and Honiton Road Park and Ride)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

1415 Monday to Friday journey from Exeter St Davids to Honiton Road Park and Ride will be withdrawn, however, alternative journey options are available.

Service 9/9A (Exeter – Honiton / Seaton)

Timing changes are introduced Monday to Sunday to improve reliability and punctuality and to provide a more even spread of departures.

For operational reasons, there will be a change to the route within Exeter, with buses operating via Honiton Road Park and Ride and Moor Lane, as opposed to Sidmouth Road and Sowton Park and Ride. New bus stops will be provided on Moor Lane, to provide a number of new journey opportunities. Connections with the Falcon will be available at Honiton Road Park and Ride and passengers travelling to and from Sowton Park and Ride will be able to use Service Green.

A number of journeys are retimed and please check the new timetable carefully before travelling.

Monday to Friday journeys at 0650, 0830 and 1405 from Exeter to Sidmouth and at 0850 from Sidmouth to Exeter will be withdrawn. The 0730 journey from Sidmouth to Exeter is extended to start from Sidbury.

Service X30 (Exeter – Seaton)

Service 44/44A (Exeter – Honiton / Axminster)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

On Monday to Saturday Service 44A journeys from Exeter to Honiton at 2030 and on Saturdays at 1515 from Honiton to Exeter will be revised to follow the standard route not serving Cranbrook.

Monday to Saturday additional Service 44A journeys will operate at 1815 from Honiton to Exeter and 1910 from Axminster to Honiton.

Service 57 (Exeter – Brixington via Topsham and Exmouth)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

Following a review of data and surveys on reliability, punctuality and passenger flows and demand, significant changes to the route and timetable are introduced. With low demand for travel across Exmouth, the route will be separated in Exmouth Town Centre to ensure passengers will benefit from a more reliable and punctual service.

Service 57 will operate between Exeter Bus Station and Exmouth Parade only. The section of route between Exmouth Parade and Brixington will be covered by a new Service 99.

During the early morning and late evening, some Service 57 journeys will continue on to operate as new Service 99 and therefore at these times, a through service to Brixington will continue to be provided.

To ensure a robust timetable can be operated the Monday to Saturday daytime frequency will be adjusted to operate every 20 minutes. There are no changes to the frequency of buses during the evening or on Sunday and Public Holidays.

A small number of school day only journeys will be removed from the timetable.

Service 58/58A (Exeter – Exmouth)

Service 95 (Exmouth – Sandy Bay) – 24 March 2024

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality. To achieve this and better reflect passenger demand the journeys that currently operate between Countess Wear and Exmouth Leisure Centre are removed from the timetable.

o ensure the route caters for the vast majority of passengers, who are those travelling between Sandy Bay and Exmouth, the route will be simplified and become more direct.

Buses from Sandy Bay will operate the current route as far as Littleham Cross and then non-stop via Salterton Road to Exmouth Pavilion, before continuing via the current route to Exmouth Leisure Centre.

The section of route along Cranford Avenue, Douglas Avenue, The Maer and Queens Drive will no longer be served, however, passengers for Cranford Avenue can use Service 357 and passengers for Douglas Avenue can use Services 97 and 357. There will be no service to The Maer and Queens Drive, however, alternative stops are available nearby.

From 24 March 2024, the Saturday and Sunday timetables will be reinstated for the start of the 2024 season. Up until the 25 May 2024, and again from 1 September 2024 until 2 November 2024 buses will operate every 60 minutes between approximately 0830 and 1730. From 26 May 2024 until 31 August 2024, service will increase to operate every 30 minutes between approximately 0830 and 1730.

Service 96 (Exmouth – Lympstone)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality. To coincide with changes to the route of Service 57 and the introduction of new Service 99, there will be a change to the route of Service 96.

From Hulham Road, buses will operate a one-way loop serving Marley Road, Jubilee Drive and Dinan Way, before resuming current route from Bryon Way. The bus stop at Dennesdene Close on Hulham Road will no longer be served by Service 96, however, alternative bus stops are available nearby.

Departure times from Lympstone are advanced by 5 minutes to depart at XX05.

Service 97 (Masey Road – Exmouth Town Centre – The Marles)

Timing changes are introduced Monday to Sunday to improve reliability and punctuality.

Service 98/98A (Exmouth – Littleham)

Timing changes are introduced Monday to Sunday to improve reliability and punctuality.

Service 99 (Exmouth – Brixington)

As a result of changes to the route of Service 57, a new Service 99 will be introduced.

Service 99 will operate from Rolle Street in Exmouth Town Centre and will operate a circular route serving Brixington. Buses will follow the current Service 57 route, with the exception of Lime Grove, Spider’s Lane and part of Jubilee Drive (see changes to the route of Service 96).

Buses will operate on Monday to Saturday daytimes every 20 minutes, providing an additional journey opportunity every hour. During the evening Service 99 will operate hourly and on Sunday and Public Holidays daytimes every 30 minutes.

While early morning and evening journeys on Service 99 will connect into Service 57 journeys, without the need to change bus, at other times, passengers will need to change buses in Exmouth Town Centre for onward travel via a short walk between the bus stops at Rolle Street and Exmouth Parade.

Service 99E (Brixington – Littleham via Exmouth)

On Sunday and Public Holiday daytimes journeys will no longer serve Rodney Close but will additionally serve World of Country Life, passengers can use alternative stops on West Down Lane, a few metres away from the Rodney Close bus stop. The 1603 journey from Rodney Close to Exmouth Peacocks will operate as a through journey to Brixington.

Service 157/257/357 (Exmouth – Sidmouth via Budleigh Salterton)

Timing changes are introduced Monday to Sunday to improve reliability and punctuality.

On Sunday and Public Holidays Service 157 will terminate at Rolle Street in Exmouth.

On Monday to Saturdays the 0628 journey from Exmouth to Budleigh and the 1845 to East Budleigh along with the Saturday journey at 0710 from Exmouth to East Budleigh and the 0740 and 1847 from Exmouth to East Budleigh will be withdrawn. The 0635 Monday to Saturday journey from Exmouth to Sidmouth will be re-timed to depart 5 minutes earlier at 0630.

Service 358 (Exeter – Otterton)

Minor timing changes are introduced to improve reliability and punctuality, with the morning journey advanced to depart 15 minutes earlier from Otterton at 0705.

 

Exeter Area

 

Service A (Alphington - City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

In line with passenger demand on Saturday morning, buses will run every 40 minutes between 0525 and 0805, then every 20 minutes until 0905 and then every 15 minutes throughout the day.

 

Service B (Science Park – Exminster via City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

Following passenger feedback and working in partnership with Devon County Council, a number of new evening journeys between Science Park and Matford Park and Ride are introduced Monday to Saturday.

Additional departures are introduced from the Science Park at 1955, 2100, 2205 and 2310, with additional departures from Matford Park and Ride at 1927 (starts Exminster at 1920), 2033, 2138 and 2243.

 

Service E1/E2 (Exwick – Beacon Heath / Pinhoe via City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

Monday to Saturday early evenings and Saturday mornings, there are a number of changes to departure times, with a small number of poorly used journeys withdrawn.

During the evening where journeys terminate at Exwick, these will complete the loop around Exwick and terminate at Iveagh Court.

Following a review of passenger demand on Sunday and Public Holidays, the frequency of buses between Pinhoe and the City Centre via Lancelot Road during core retail hours (approximately 0930-1730) will be doubled from every 60 minutes to every 30 minutes.

 

Service F (Cowley Bridge – Summerway via City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

To ensure a reliable and punctual timetable can be operated, the frequency of Service F will be adjusted to operate every 70 minutes.

To simplify the service, there will also be changes to the route of Service F.

From the High Street, the majority of journeys will operate via Union Road and Prince Charles Road to Beacon Heath and then serve Savoy Hill and Summerway on a one-way loop, before operating back from Beacon Heath towards the High Street via Prince Charles Road and Union Road. There are no changes to the route between West Garth Road and the High Street. The section of route along Pinhoe Road will no longer be served, however, alternative services are available along Pinhoe Road.

This change of route will improve the level of service to Union Road and Prince Charles Road, as well as improved access to Morrisons in both directions.

 

Service H (Exeter St David’s – Digby)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

 

Service I and J (City Centre – Digby)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

To provide a more even spacing of Services 2, 57, I/J and R/S along Topsham Road during the evening, departure times on Service I from Digby will be changed to operate 30 minutes later throughout the evening, leaving Digby at XX00.

 

Service P (Crossmead – Pennsylvania via City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

To ensure a reliable and punctual timetable can be operated, the frequency of buses during the main part of the day Monday to Saturday will be adjusted to every 35-40 minutes.

Following requests and feedback from passengers, the route of Service P will be amended from 14 April 2024.

From Exeter St Thomas, towards Crossmead, buses will operate a one-way clockwise loop via Cowick Street, Dunsford Hill, Barley Lane, Barley Farm Road, Berkshire Drive, Charnley Avenue, Isleworth Road, Buddle Lane, Okehampton Road and Buller Road before returning to current at Cowick Street. The new route for Service P will see the service reinstated to Charnley Avenue, Isleworth Road, Buddle Lane, Okehampton Road and Buller Road.

As a result of the new route, Bowhay Lane will no longer be served, however, alternative bus stops are available nearby on Dunsford Road (Services 6A and 360) or Berkshire Drive (Service P).

 

Service R and S (Wonford and Thornpark Rise Circular)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

There are some changes to departure times Monday to Friday and Saturday early mornings to better utilise resource and match passenger demand.

There is a slight reduction to the number of journeys on Saturday morning to better reflect passenger demand.

 

Service Green (Matford Park & Ride – Sowton Park & Ride via City Centre)

Timing changes are introduced each day to improve reliability and punctuality.

 

South Devon Areas

 

Service 17/17A (Brixham Local Service)- 31 March 2024

Following a recent tender round with Torbay Council, there will be a new timetable introduced on Sunday and Public Holidays.

The new timetable will see an increase in the number of journeys, with 8 round trips per day provided. All journeys will follow the standard Service 17 timetable and there will no longer be any journeys operating the current Sunday and Public Holidays Service 17A route variation.

There are also some minor changes to the timetable to improve reliability and punctuality.

 

Service 18 (Brixham – Kingswear) – 31 March 2024

A new timetable will be introduced on Sunday and Public Holidays, which will operate with financial support from Devon County Council.

The Sunday and Public Holiday timetable will be enhanced to provide 8 round trips per day, offering additional journey opportunities. There are also some minor changes to the timetable to improve reliability and punctuality.

 

Service 60 (Paignton – Occombe Farm) – 31 March 2024

Following a recent tender round by Torbay Council, Stagecoach will commence operation of Service 60 between Paignton and Occombe Farm via Shorton from 1 April 2024.

Service 60 will operate hourly between 0900 and 1400 from Paignton and 0930 and 1430 from Occombe Farm on Monday to Friday only.

 

Service 92 (Dartmouth to Totnes) – 24 March 2024

To improve connectivity with the Dartmouth Park and Ride site at times of the year when the Dartmouth Park and Ride Service 91 is not operating, Service 92 will see some enhancements. This will ensure both residents and visitors are able to use the park and ride, to make local journeys and improve access to healthcare facilities.

Between Monday 25 March 2024 and Saturday 25 May 2024 and then again from Monday 16 September 2024, Service 92 will additionally serve the bus stop within Dartmouth Park and Ride between approximately 0900 and 1800. Journeys on Sunday and Public Holidays will not serve Dartmouth Park and Ride.

Outside of these times, between Sunday 27 May 2024 and Saturday 14 September 2024, the current schedule will apply with Service 92 not serving the Dartmouth Park and Ride bus stop.

Additional journeys will also operate between the Park and Ride and Dartmouth Pontoon, providing two departures per hour.

 

 

Service 122 (Babbacombe – Devon Bay via Torquay and Paignton) – 24 March 2024

Due to ongoing public realm works around Torquay Harbourside and a lack of access to the seafront in Paignton, Service 122 will not be able to be reinstated as normal for the start of the 2024 season.

As a result a limited timetable will be introduced from 24 March 2024 covering the section of route between Devon Bay and Paignton Bus Station only. Service 122 will operate daily, every 40 minutes from approximately 0900 until 1800 between Devon Bay and Paignton Bus Station, with a small gap in the timetable during the middle of the day.

We will be closely monitoring access to the normal route during the course of the season to understand if changes can be made should the situation improve.

 

Service 178 (Newton Abbot – Whiddon Down)

Following a recent tender round, Stagecoach will commence operation of Service 178 under contract to Devon County Council.

Service 178 provides two journeys per day in each direction Monday to Friday between Newton Abbot / Bovey Tracey and Whiddon Down via Moretonhampstead and Chagford.

The timetable is designed to facilitate connections with at Whiddon Down with Service 6A with onward travel to and from Okehampton and Exeter.
