The Dawlish contribution to "The Festival of Devon in the 1920s" inspired by the Devon History Society.
What was Dawlish like in the 1920s - come and find out!
The day is billed as celebrating Dawlish, Starcross and the Exe Estuary in the 1920s by a series of talks and exhibitions with a particular focus on market gardening and flower-growing. We are lucky in that the Dawlish Local History Group and Dawlish Museum have access to a large collection of professional photographs of Dawlish that show people and events in the 1920s.
Held in the Manor House Dawlish, EX79AP, the exhibition is open on Saturday 29th March 10am to 3pm with talks at the times shown below:
11.00 Returning servicemen from the Great War and the growth of smallholdings (Clare Greener)
11.30 Violets - a cash crop growing in the Dawlish area (Suzanne Jones)
13.00 Bringing Starcross in the 1920s to life (Jon Nicol)
